The ground it all stands on
None of this is required reading. Sessions work perfectly well for people with no interest in any of it. But it is where the work comes from, and some people would rather know.
Awakening to the SELF
Within you already exists the capacity for Constant Integrated Awareness, Equanimity and Bliss. LiberatingTouch® is a pathway that supports you in recognising and embodying this innate state, helping you reconnect with your authentic power and awaken to the presence of the SELF.
As you become more conscious of your thoughts, your breath, and your inner state of being, you begin to cultivate greater awareness. From this awareness arises choice, the ability to shift your perception, elevate your vibration, and respond to life with clarity rather than conditioning. This journey is one of remembrance: returning to the wisdom, peace, and wholeness that have always existed within you.
Detachment
When life feels overwhelming or emotions become turbulent, the practice of detachment offers a profound source of stability and freedom.
Detachment, or non-attachment, is not about withdrawing from life, suppressing emotions, or becoming indifferent. Rather, it is the art of remaining deeply present without becoming unconsciously entangled in external circumstances, expectations, or emotional reactions. It allows you to engage fully with life while remaining rooted in inner peace.
Through detachment, you develop the ability to observe rather than react. Challenges no longer dictate your state of being, and the actions or opinions of others lose their power to disturb your inner harmony. Instead, you respond from presence, wisdom, and quiet confidence.
This practice enables you to navigate life's complexities with greater clarity, compassion, and discernment. Rather than becoming caught in unnecessary drama, fear, or conflict, you remain centred in truth, making conscious choices that reflect your highest nature.
Non-attachment is a state in which our inner peace is no longer entirely dependent upon external circumstances, other people, our desires or our expectations. We begin to recognise how easily the mind can become unsettled when life does not unfold as we hoped, when someone triggers an emotional response, or when old beliefs and conditioned patterns rise to the surface. Rather than being carried away by these experiences, detachment invites us to observe them with awareness. In doing so, we can return more easily to balance and realign ourselves with Truth.
True detachment is not a rejection of life, it is freedom within life. It is the ability to love without attachment, act without fear, and remain inwardly balanced regardless of external conditions.
The Infinity Exercise
The Infinity Exercise is a simple yet profound practice for creating space, space to breathe, space to see clearly, and space to return to yourself.
At first, you may wonder what this practice is really for. Can it support manifestation and intention? Can it help us release what we no longer need? Can we use it when we feel overwhelmed, emotionally entangled or stressed? Can it bring us back into the present moment, towards greater peace, flow and harmony, or support the deeper journey of Self-Realisation? The beautiful answer is that the Infinity Exercise can be explored in all of these ways, and its possibilities may reach much further.
Sometimes spiritual practice is most valuable in the very ordinary moments of life. The Infinity Exercise can be used while navigating everyday responsibilities, difficult conversations, emotional reactions or relationships that feel demanding. It offers a way of creating a little inner distance, allowing us to remain present without becoming absorbed in another person's energy, behaviour or expectations.
With practice, it can help us become more discerning about what belongs to us and what does not. Instead of reacting automatically, we have an opportunity to return to our centre and choose how we wish to respond. As the mind becomes quieter and less entangled, we can become more receptive to a deeper awareness, an experience of connection, unity and the Divine.
The LiberatingTouch® Detachment Process
The Infinity Exercise forms part of the LiberatingTouch® Detachment Process. At the heart of the practice is the ancient and familiar shape of infinity: ∞.
Imagine a large Infinity symbol before you. See or sense yourself resting within one of its loops. In the other loop, gently place whatever you wish to create some space from. This might be a person, a situation, an emotion, an expectation, a memory, an object or even a thought that has been occupying too much of your attention. There is no need to reject it, fight it or make it disappear. You are simply allowing it to have its own space while you return to yours.
Now imagine a beautiful white light travelling continuously around the Infinity symbol. You may experience this light as a luminous serpent, a flowing stream or simply a radiant movement of energy. Allow it to travel around your loop, cross through the centre of the Infinity symbol and continue around the opposite loop before returning again. It may move clockwise or counter-clockwise. There is no need to force the experience, simply allow the movement to unfold naturally in your imagination.
This flowing movement creates a symbolic boundary between you and the other. Rather than cutting yourself off, you are creating enough inner space to observe clearly, breathe more freely and reconnect with your own centre. You are not pushing anything away, not trying to control another person, and not denying what you feel. You are simply releasing the need to remain entangled with it.
Within LiberatingTouch, this practice is sometimes affectionately called “Infinitising”.
Returning to your centre
We all experience moments when another person's words catch us unexpectedly. A conversation becomes heated. Someone makes a remark and suddenly an old wound is activated. We may feel criticised, pressured, misunderstood or pulled into a situation we would rather not be part of. These are often the moments when the Infinity Exercise can be most helpful.
You do not necessarily need to stop what you are doing or perform a formal practice. Simply remember ∞. See it in your mind. Trace it gently with a finger if you wish. Imagine yourself within one loop and place the person, problem, emotion or situation within the other, then allow the white light to begin its graceful journey around the two loops.
Even a few moments of this practice may remind you that you have choices. You do not have to follow every thought. You do not have to enter every argument. You do not have to carry every emotion that passes through your awareness. You can create space, and within that space, something changes.
The Infinity Exercise is ultimately an invitation to return home to yourself. Again and again, the symbol ∞ can remind us that beneath the changing experiences of life there is a deeper presence, spacious, peaceful and whole.
Understanding the Mind
The mind is an extraordinary instrument, yet when governed by unconscious conditioning it can become a veil that obscures the direct experience of our Infinite Intuitive Self, the Illumined SELF (I S), as described within LiberatingTouch.
This veil is woven from accumulated beliefs, desires, fears, attachments, and the illusion of separation. When awareness becomes identified with these patterns, we naturally lose sight of the stillness, wisdom, and limitless presence that reside within.
The SELF has not disappeared. It has simply become more difficult to recognise beneath the activity of the mind.
One of the essential stages in awakening to the SELF is learning to understand the workings of the mind while cultivating genuine detachment. As awareness gradually releases its identification with conditioned thoughts, habitual patterns, emotional attachments, and limiting beliefs, the mind becomes quieter and more transparent.
Just as a fire naturally subsides when its fuel is removed, the restless activity of the conditioned mind diminishes when we no longer nourish it through attachment. As these energetic bonds dissolve, awareness expands, inner freedom emerges, and the radiant presence of the SELF is revealed, not as something to attain, but as the truth of who we have always been.
LiberatingTouch gently guides this process of remembering, inviting you beyond the limitations of the thinking mind into a direct experience of presence, peace, and the limitless intelligence of your true nature.
The Wisdom of Forgiveness
Forgiveness is one of the quietest and most powerful gifts we can offer ourselves. It does not mean that what happened was acceptable, nor does it ask us to forget, deny our feelings, or remain close to someone who has caused us harm. Forgiveness is, instead, an inner act of release, a willingness to loosen our hold on the pain, resentment and hurt that may have travelled with us for far too long.
At times, the person we most need to forgive is ourselves. We may carry regret for choices made, words spoken, opportunities missed, or simply for not having known then what we know now. Self-forgiveness invites us to meet our past with compassion and to recognise that growth often comes through our imperfections. We can acknowledge what has been, learn from it, and still choose to treat ourselves with kindness.
Forgiving family, friends or those who have hurt us can be a gradual process. We do not have to force forgiveness or pretend that a wound does not exist. We can begin simply by becoming willing to put down some of its weight. Sometimes forgiveness arrives slowly, layer by layer, as we allow ourselves to feel, understand, accept and gently release.
Forgiveness does not necessarily restore a relationship, sometimes wisdom asks us to maintain loving boundaries or to walk a different path. What forgiveness can restore is our own inner freedom. It allows the past to become part of our story without continuing to govern our present.
In this way, forgiveness becomes part of self-realisation: a deeper understanding of ourselves, our humanity and our capacity to love without abandoning ourselves. As we release what we no longer need to carry, there is more room for peace, compassion and possibility.
Perhaps forgiveness begins with one gentle question: “Am I ready to release a little of this burden today?” We do not have to release everything at once. Sometimes, a little is enough to begin.
The LiberatingTouch system
LiberatingTouch is a sacred discipline for inner transformation, comprising 11 Core Processes, including the foundational Detachment Process, together with 36 Sequences and 108 Variations. Each practice is offered as a means to purify the mind, expand awareness, and awaken the Divine Presence that resides within every being.
The path of Self-Realisation is not one of acquiring something new, but of removing the veils that conceal our true nature. Through sincere practice, patience, and steady self-enquiry, the seeker gradually releases attachment, ego, and limiting tendencies. As these coverings dissolve, the light of the Self shines forth naturally, revealing the Truth that has always existed within.
LiberatingTouch has been created to support the Spiritual Regeneration of Humanity. When individuals awaken to their own Divine Reality, they naturally become instruments of harmony, compassion, and service. As each heart is transformed, the world is transformed.
The four eternal principles
- Truth (Satya): to seek, live, and express that which is eternal, recognising the Divine as the essence of all existence.
- Self-Responsibility (Dharma, righteous living): to understand that lasting transformation begins within, and to accept responsibility for one's thoughts, words, actions, and spiritual growth.
- Peace (Shanti): to cultivate the stillness that arises when the mind rests in the Self, allowing equanimity to remain undisturbed by the changing world.
- Love (Prema): to recognise the same Divine Presence in all beings and to express unconditional love through compassion, kindness, humility, and selfless service.
The purpose of LiberatingTouch is not merely to teach techniques, but to awaken remembrance, to help each individual realise that the Light they seek has always shone within their own heart.
Or start with something simpler
You are welcome to read all of this and then book an ordinary session about not sleeping. Both are fine.
